Hiking Guide
WTA's hiking guide is the most comprehensive database of hikes in Washington, and comprises content written by local hiking experts and user submitted information. All data is vetted by WTA staff. This resource is made possible by the donations of WTA members.
We respectfully acknowledge the lands we are visiting are the homelands of Indigenous tribes of the Pacific Northwest, some of whom have reserved rights on these lands. The curiously-named Lake 22 is the center of an oasis of alpine wetland nestled on the northern shoulder of Mount Pilchuck. The hike to the lake combines the best of mountain rainforests, old-growth, wetlands and mountain views, yet it is readily accessible. In winter, the route lends itself to snowshoeing.
Old Robe Canyon

The trail is closed about a mile in due to landslides.
Short, easy trail to the Stillaguamish River and the site of the railroad town of Robe and great views of the Stilliguamish River as it races by. The trail switchbacks through a forest of alder down to a forest of big leaf maple draped with lush mosses, liverwort and licorice fern. The forest floor is thick with fern and colorful salmonberry. Watch the kids! The Stilliguamish runs swift and deep here, especially during periods of high water flow. It is not recommended to continue on to the old railroad tunnels due to trail washout, slope slump and rockfall.
Big Four Ice Caves

Never go into or climb on top of the Ice Caves.
This is an easy walk on a wide gravel and boardwalk path to views of Big Four Mountain and the caves beneath the snow. Hikers of all ages and abilities can enjoy this trail.
Monte Cristo Ghost Town

Hike to an old mining town by heading up a long-closed road along the South Fork Sauk River. This route largely sticks to the old route taken by miners over a century ago.

Hike to a small scenic lake on the flanks of Mount Pilchuck. The trail is a bit rough, but its ease of access, short mileage and modest elevation gain make this one of the easier hikes on the Mountain Loop Highway

Lose yourself in second-growth forest as you traverse an old logging road that heads into quiet wilderness just an hour from the urban sprawl of Puget Sound. Enjoy the sounds of water rushing and birds singing. Explore mossy boulders and cross multiple burbling creeks, even do a small amount of cross-country travel on the way to the piece de resistance – a 1,200 foot waterfall that streams into tiny Lipsy Lake before draining to the Taylor River.

Jungle Creek Trail is a 4-mile long trail from FS 9701/Jungle Creek Road to Johnson Media Trail #1383. The saddle at 2.1 miles from the trailhead is the highest point of the trail at 4,500 feet in elevation. In spring there are a lot of flowers along the trail. When the weather is good, there are good views of peaks in Stuart Range at the saddle.

This route is in the Teanaway / 29 Pines Staging Area Groomed Trail System. The long and mostly flat road can be used for snowshoeing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing when weather permits.

Accessible from the Beverly Turnpike trail or from the Ingalls Creek trail, Fourth Creek is a hiker-only trail that connects Beverly Turnpike with the Ingalls Creek trail and allows hikers to create loops in the popular Teanaway area.

Escape the crowds and access early season views in the Teanaway. Starting on an old forest road and ending on a climbers’ trail, this mostly exposed hike passes through wildflowers and a burn area to reach the Johnson Mountain summit with views of the Enchantments, Rainier, the Teanaway River Valley, and wind farms of eastern Washington.

Spanning the Wenatchee Mountains and offering views of the backside of the Enchantment Peaks, the Beverly Turnpike trail (named for the two creeks it parallels) offers a straightforward out-and-back hike to a pass, or a more rugged thru-hike into the Ingalls Creek drainage. It also can be used to create loop hikes, or access nearby peaks. Hikers share this trail with mountain bikes and horses, and it isn’t uncommon to see occasional evidence of them along the way.

A sub-alpine meadow teeming with wildflowers greets hikers who make their way up the Bean Creek Basin. Beginning along Beverly Creek as it tumbles past the trailhead, the trail then climbs up Bean Creek to the colorful meadow from which it is fed.
