It’s August 25. There are multiple closures and road delays in the North Cascades this week and beyond. And, with hot weather coming our way, make sure to take precautions to avoid any heat-related illnesses. Here’s some news you may have missed while out on trail this week.

Be aware of several closures of roads, trails and camping areas throughout the North Cascades, including Hart's Pass Road. Photo by Jay Blackburn.

Road closure: Hart’s Pass Road, NF-5400, is closed until further notice to clear a landslide preventing vehicles from passing. Crews are currently working to clear the road as soon as possible. If seeking other ways to access this part of the Pacific Crest Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail Association has outlined some alternative routes.

Trail and camp closures: All trails and camp areas (Boundary camp to Stillwell camp) accessed through Hannegan Pass Trailhead from Copper Pass to the Big Beaver Trail junction are closed due to fires until further notice.

Road delays and closures: Multiple points on Highway 20, the North Cascades Highway, are or will be reduced to single lanes for construction. Through September 2, there will be a single lane between Challenger Road and Hurn Field (west of Concrete) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly. Starting August 26, there will be a single lane between Rocky Creek Road in Rockport and Dexter Lane in Marblemount from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hot weather and wildfires: With some hot weather in the forecast early next week, be sure to check weather forecasts before heading out on a trip, stay cool, stay hydrated and consider finding a shady hike. Check wildfire locations and statuses to stay safe from both fire and smoke.
