You've got a couple of options to get onto the Rock Creek Tie trail, which isn't so much a destination hike as it is a functional one — it connects the Rock Creek trail to Basalt Pass, the latter of which provides access to Basalt Peak, the Basalt Ridge trail, Garland Peak and many other trails to the north.
To reach Rock Creek Tie from the Basalt Pass trail, you'll be climbing over 1,200 feet in just over a mile, so get ready for quite a climb! To reach Rock Creek Tie from the Rock Creek trail, you'll be climbing about the same amount of elevation gain — 1,200 feet — but you'll be doing it over 2.5 miles.
Expect blowdowns in the middle of the Rock Creek Tie trail — it's not always maintained, and there are plenty of trees around!
