King County Parks has announced the opening of a reroute of the Licorice Fern trail on Cougar Mountain. And it’s nearly rattlesnake season.

Join us on April 24 for a night of music and beautiful nature photography at Crescendo, a collaboration between WTA and the Northwest Symphony Orchestra. King County Parks has announced the opening of a reroute of the Licorice Fern trail on Cougar Mountain. And it’s nearly rattlesnake season. Here’s some news you may have missed while out on trail this week.

WTA is hiring: WTA is hiring for our summer professional trail work crew! Our pro crews work statewide on a broad variety of trail projects. Crew members work in conjunction with three other members, an assistant crew leader and a crew leader to build and maintain trails on public lands. The position is based in North Bend. The priority application deadline is April 7.
Live music and trails: Join Washington Trails Association for our third Crescendo concert in collaboration with the Northwest Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. on April 24 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle. See photos from WTA’s annual Northwest Exposure Photo Contest on the big screen while listening to sweeping melodies performed live by NWSO. Your ticket purchase will support our work to connect everyone to the outdoors and build a community that gives back to trails and public lands. Tickets are selling fast, so buy yours today.
Trail reroute complete! King County Parks has announced that the Licorice Fern Trail reroute in Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park has been completed. WTA and King County Parks have been working over the last 3 years to rebuild the trail to make it more sustainable and retire the old trail. Please avoid taking the old trail and allow the rehabilitated plants to grow!
Rattlesnake season: Spring is here, it’s starting to warm up, and that means more wildflowers, sunscreen and maybe rattlesnakes! Especially if you’re hiking in Central or Eastern Washington, be sure to read up on how to hike in rattlesnake country before you hit the trails, check trip reports and be alert while on your hike.
