Olympic National Park permits: Reservations for the summer backpacking season in the Olympic National Park wilderness will be available on Recreation.gov starting on April 15 at 7 a.m. The summer reservation season is May 15 through Oct. 15. All backcountry camping requires a permit in Olympic National Park. See the backcountry wilderness permit information page for more details.
Roadless Rule community meeting: Last year, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced that the federal government plans to eliminate the Roadless Rule, which protects about one-third of our national forests from new road construction, logging and mining. Join WTA and other conservation and recreation organizations that support the Roadless Rule at a community meeting on April 17 to speak up for public lands and against the repeal of the Roadless Rule. The meeting will be from 5:30–8 p.m. at the Mountaineers Program Center in Seattle.
State park same-day camping reservations: Visitors can now make same-day reservations for campsites in all Washington State Parks campgrounds with reservable campsites. Campsites can be reserved until 2 p.m. on the same day the reservation starts on the Washington State Parks reservation website or by calling 1-888-CAMPOUT. Same-day reservations apply only to campgrounds, and not roofed accommodations, vacation rentals, yurts or day-use facilities. First come, first served camping is available for unreserved campsites after 2:30 p.m.
Washington Coast Cleanup: Join other volunteers on April 25 to celebrate a belated Earth Day by cleaning up our coasts at the Washington Coast Cleanup! Cleanups will be taking place in several beaches across the Pacific and northern coasts of the Olympic Peninsula, as well as the coast of the Puget Sound. Check out the event list to find a cleanup near you.
