Last call for Hike-a-Thon! Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our Hike-a-Thon fundraising goal! There are still a few days left to make or collect a donation. You have until Sept. 8 to get everything in. Every additional dollar raised means more funds for trails and public lands.
Northwest Exposure Photo Contest: Don’t forget — our annual photo contest is open! Submit your photos before Oct. 12 to help trails and for the chance to win fun prizes. And don’t forget about this year’s opportunity to become a SnapShot winner. You could receive a $25 gift card to Glazer’s Photo Lab. Our upcoming SnapShot categories are:
- #desert: through Sept. 6
- #southernWA: Sept. 14–20
- #smilesonTrail: Sept. 28–Oct. 4
Hoh River Bridge closures: The Hoh River Bridge on US 101, south of Forks, will be closed overnight and over several long weekends starting Monday, Sept. 14 for bridge repairs. Every night, from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., between Sept. 14–Sept. 22, the bridge will be closed to all traffic. Additionally, the bridge will be closed, 24-hours a day, for up to 6 days at the following times:
- 5 a.m. on Sept. 24 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 29
- 5 a.m. on Oct. 1 to noon Oct. 6
- 5 a.m. on Oct. 8 to noon Oct. 13
Sand Creek Road closure: Culvert replacement work is scheduled for Sept. 8 to Oct. 9 on Sand Creek Road, which will restrict access to the Red Hill trailhead.
Fire closures: Fire activity was slower this week, but here are a few fire closures to know about:
- The Sisi Fire closure on the Pacific Crest Trail has expanded slightly — the PCT is now closed between Suiattle Pass (mile 2555.2) and Bridge Creek Camp (2580.1).
- The Electric Fire has closed Bacon Creek Road (Forest Road 1060) off of Highway 20, as well as Forest Road 1064.
WTA in the news: WTA’s awesome volunteers were highlighted in the Seattle Times earlier this week, with a story about four trails we’ve built with the help of many volunteers and some partner organizations. Check it out in the Seattle Times! (And if you’re interested in joining us on trail sometime, be sure to take a look at our volunteer schedule.)
