North Cascades Highway opens: Highway 20 has reopened. It had been closed due to fires and landslides.
Stehekin reopens to tourism: The Pioneer Fire is expected to burn through the end of the season, but as the wildfire risk tamps down, the evacuation orders are reduced in Stehekin. While the area is now open for end-of-season tourism, many of the trail closures are likely to remain in place.
This week in trip reports: Plenty of trip reports mention ripe berries and the shifting season. One trip reporter even reported overnight snow in the Goat Rocks! While the weather looks great this weekend, it's that time of year when you should go prepared for all kinds of weather.
Final push for Hike-a-Thon: Hike-a-Thoners across the state are making their final push to accumulate as many miles and dollars to support trails as they can in the final days of August. Look for them on the trail and give them a high five or just $5.
Runners on the PCT Aug. 31: If you're on the Pacific Crest Trail from Panther Creek Campground to Bonner Creek, you may run into a few trail runners running the Three Corner Rock PCT 50K. Cheer 'em on!
