Hiker Headlines: Closures on Highway 20, at Heybrook Ridge Park and state parks
Several closures are in place after recent storms and other issues, including on Highway 20 and multiple state parks. Heybrook Ridge Park is also closed for a few months for construction. Cascade Backcountry Alliance is asking you to share your experience winter recreating in the Snoqualmie Pass region. And, keep an eye out for the Washington State Department of Ecology's new mascot for their "We Keep WA Litter Free" campaign.
It’s March 19. Several closures are in place after recent storms and other issues, including on Highway 20 and multiple state parks. Heybrook Ridge Park is also closed for a few months for construction. Cascade Backcountry Alliance is asking you to share your experience winter recreating in the Snoqualmie Pass region. And, keep an eye out for the Washington State Department of Ecology's new mascot for their "We Keep WA Litter Free" campaign. Here’s some news you may have missed while out on trail this week.

Highway 20 closure: Highway 20 (the North Cascades Highway) is closed at Colonial Creek Campground near Diablo Lake (milepost 130) until further notice due to a major rock fall. This is about 4 miles west of the western end of the Highway 20 winter closure, which starts at the Ross Dam trailhead.
Heybrook Ridge Park closure: Heybrook Ridge Park is currently closed for construction, which includes the Heybrook Ridge and Erinswood trails, as well as the trailhead. Construction is focused on the ADA-compliant Erinswood trail. The closure is expected to last through June.
State park closures: Be aware of multiple Washington State Park closures due to recent storms:
- The viewpoint at the lower falls at Twin Falls is closed due to storm damage.
- The Palouse to Cascades trail is closed between Lower Peoh Road and the Thorp Tunnels until further notice due to landslides and fallen debris.
- The day-use area of Paradise Point State Park is closed due to flooding.

"We Keep WA Litter Free" marmot: The Washington State Department of Ecology has a new spokesperson with a message: Help keep Washington litter-free! Keep an eye out for the Department of Ecology's new commercials, starring a marmot puppet, encouraging folks to keep litter off our roads and public spaces.
