We did this hike from the Liberty Lake County Park side. We headed up the Loop Trail and turned toward the Edith Hansen riding trail. Once on the Edith H trail we took the right-hand junction that someone kindly labeled with Sharpie marker designating that this was the way to Mica Peak. This turn occurs after the long haul up the Edith Hansen hill. (Warning: after ascending this steep hill you'll see a sharp right junction heading North--don't take that--learned that from experience). About 100 yards later you'll come upon the correct Loop Trail post with Mica written in sharpie showing you the way. There is little to no signage from there, other than someone came along and put up orange streamers as a help at each junction, but who knows how long that will last. At the next two junctions you'll always take the right-hand choice. Then at the last junction you'll take a counter-intuitive left. I say counter-intuitive because shortly after this left you'll be descending for a short while, only to realize that you'll indeed make up this down with a bit more up. This climb is not for weak legs--it's up, up, and more up for 7 miles straight. There is no real pay-off at the end except the feeling of victory from reaching that dome and a few views of Spokane Valley. Worth doing once for bragging rights and amazing exercise, if nothing else!

I joined in on a group hike with the Inland Northwest Lands Conservancy led by Todd Dunfield and we hiked a 4 mile loop. Snow still on trail but melting quick and hiked in just boots. Sunny spots we encountered a lot of mud so be prepared to get dirty. Mica Peak is a great place to hike right now and has a lot of viewpoints.

A friend & I did a Hok ski tour of Mica Peak.  We took the DNR trail to the Conservation Area, then went up nearly to the top of the new WTA trail.  The morning started clear but then it started snowing hard, so we opted to skip the summit.  Skiing was very good in the upper portion of the trail system, but the snow lower on the mountain was wet and heavy.  The coverage was good everywhere.  This is an excellent time to visit Mica Peak on skis, and there were some snowshoe tracks out on the trail system, too.  The parking lot was fairly clear when we arrived, and the plows came through again while we were skiing, so access is good.  There were a lot of animal tracks in the fresh snow.

Today's WTA Work Party is a continuation of the work that was initiated just this year to build a formal trails system on Mica Peak as a commitment by the WTA to Spokane County.

The mile-long dirt road up from the parking lot through the unlocked gate, while dry at the present, is recommended for high-clearance vehicles only given the uneven surface and grade at parts.

Our work today primarily involved treading new trail, building a rock wall on a slope, and brush & tree work in anticipation of treading.  We were working near 2 small former mica mines.

This was my first time that I ventured to take the branch trail right after Edith Hansen hill on the Liberty Lake loop to Mica Peak. From the start of the branch trail off Edith to the weather dome at the top was maybe a 2200 ft continuous climb over maybe four to five miles. So definitely a great workout!

The trail is a mixture of old service road, single track and mountain biking trails. There were several different kinds of wildflowers in bloom and I wasn’t really sure what direction I was looking but the trail offered several nice views on the way up. There were a few trees downed across the path that were easy enough to get around or over. I think easily the best feature of this trail to me was it is a ‘gold mine’ of cool rocks. If you hike this you will definitely see why it is named Mica Peak. Pretty much everything has at least a little to a ton of Mica in it.
