Mica Peak — Sunday, Jun. 24, 2018

Eastern Washington > Spokane Area/Coeur d'Alene
View from a makeshift rock hut

This was my first time that I ventured to take the branch trail right after Edith Hansen hill on the Liberty Lake loop to Mica Peak. From the start of the branch trail off Edith to the weather dome at the top was maybe a 2200 ft continuous climb over maybe four to five miles. So definitely a great workout!

The trail is a mixture of old service road, single track and mountain biking trails. There were several different kinds of wildflowers in bloom and I wasn’t really sure what direction I was looking but the trail offered several nice views on the way up. There were a few trees downed across the path that were easy enough to get around or over. I think easily the best feature of this trail to me was it is a ‘gold mine’ of cool rocks. If you hike this you will definitely see why it is named Mica Peak. Pretty much everything has at least a little to a ton of Mica in it.
