It was a beautiful day to try an evening hike. My plan was to starts at 5 and be done by 8pm and unfortunately I stumbled on a root .5 miles before the lake. Please watch your steps. There is no service here. I was traveling solo and had no help had it been bad enough there were people at the camp sites. Im sure could of rendered aid if I was in bad enough shape but I had not informed anyone I'd be staying overnight so I was determined to get out of there. Night fell. I thankfully was prepared for such occasion and had my emergency stash of ibuprofen ktap and a bear bell that made a lot of noise. As I felt adrenaline kick in I almost didnt feel my ankle swelling but branches braking and noises I can understand made the last hour of the hike very much a face paced exit. Otherwise was beautiful.  Take home. Be prepared.  Even if its just a quick evening hike it can turn into much more very quickly.

Trail is well maintained and a nice easy stroll with some minor ups and downs. We started Monday around 1pm and the crowds were pretty tame although most of the obvious camp sites were taken by five. Worth some looking but there are a lot of harder to find ones which are pretty great. Camp toilet halfway up the lake was clean and nice. Mosquitos were nowhere to be found but the flies were out and being mildly obnoxious. Great easy overnight that would be perfect for first timers or people with kids. Just watch for the copious amount of horse poop on the trail.

Started at the Pete Lake trailhead Friday evening around 7:15, made it to the main Pete Lake campsite area by 8:45. Trail was in good shape, plenty of horse poop to dodge for the first couple miles. Pete Lake was busy but we found a site quickly and spent the night there.

Next morning we hiked up to Spectacle Lake. Trail was in good shape with ripe berries and blooming wildflowers. Lemah Creek was running pretty quickly, but crossing it wasn't too difficult with trekking poles. Water was just over knee deep. The switchback section is pretty exposed at the moment, and probably would have been pretty hot in the afternoon but felt manageable in the morning.

Spectacle Lake was stunning, and the water was on the warmer side by alpine lakes swimming standards. Tons of groups camping, but some sites still available at 1:30. We met a nice ranger who was going around and doing some maintenance on sites and the new privy! She mentioned that there had been an increase in bear activity in the area and was happy to see we had a bear can. On the peninsula, it felt a little tricky to find somewhere far enough away from all of the campsites to put the bear can but eventually we found something. The bear hang opportunities were bad at both Pete and Spectacle lake. We saw plenty of people struggling to find a place to put theirs.

Hiked out from Spectacle on Sunday and tried the Old Spectacle Lake Trail to get back, off of the east side of the lake. This cut about a mile off of our return trip, but we doubt that it saved any time. The trail was primitive at best in some parts, and tough to follow in most others. Stopped at the Pete Lake privy on the way out and it was pretty full, would recommend having wag bags if staying there in the near future.

We left from the Owhi campground, which added on a mile each way, and I clocked the hike at about 10-ish miles. Such a great hike, pretty low effort with the low elevation, and awesome to not have to drive from camp! Huckleberries and blueberries are ripening, some already good, some still not ready. Left the trailhead around noon on Friday and there was no one at the lake where we had lunch!
