Recorded on my Garmin watch:

- Total miles: 7.08

- Total hike time: 2hr 39min

- Total moving time: 2hr 18 min

- Total elevation gain: 665ft

This was a nice walk in the woods with very little elevation! The first mile or so is pretty boring, but once you see the first giant tree stump the scenery gets more interesting--tons of moss-draped trees, lovely views of the river, glittering wood moss, salmon berry flowers blooming, skunk cabbage blossoms peeking out. Lime kiln was cool but nothing to call home over.

There are definitely some treacherous muddy sections where you'll either need to balance across some logs or walk carefully through deep mud (mud intensity ramps up in a couple sections at the 3 miles mark). You will also need to walk through some water on parts of the trail. Poles might be nice if you want help with balance, although I didn't have them and survived. You'll need to duck under some fallen trees as well. Otherwise, trail is very easy to follow.

In an afternoon with waves of weather, it was still a nice day to hike here....since the hail and rain were just intermittent with sunshine, too. It is amazing the number of trees that have come down, apparently over the winter, in just the early part of the trail. Crews have cut them all out of the trail. It was a bit wet on the trail today, but not deep mud....mostly surface puddles a few inches deep in places. We went as far as the Lime Kiln. To that point, no trees to climb over, just a few to duck slightly to get under, and I think most of these have been here for at least a few years. Saw a ruffed grouse on the way back. Passages over streams still present. Some seem to be cut from downed trees but most seem fairly stable as long as you take some care.

Needed a quiet place to walk and this was perfect. Arrived around noon, saw a few other people during the hike.

Looks like some serious work was done recently to remove blow downs but I still climbed over or under perhaps a dozen trees with minor effort. A few sections of the trail had suspect footing due to erosion as well.

Couldn't quite make it to the loop at the end; the last tenth of a mile before the loop was ankle deep water for large sections and I wasn't in the mood for a soaking wet tromp.

Beautiful w lots of interesting things to see. Muddy sections as you get towards the river entrance. Nice hike for all ages.
