Felt a little sore/burnt out from a couple of hikes these last two days, but still wanted to get outside today for something short!
THE ROAD / PARKING
I got to the overflow lot shortly after 9 this morning. It was more than half full, but there were still quite a few spots on the far end of the lot. I didn't bother going to the main parking lot as I saw how full the overflow lot was.
I reached the trailhead parking lot around 9:20, and I was right — the parking lot was totally full.
When I returned to the trailhead around 11:10, the trailhead parking lot was still full (unsurprisingly), and the overflow lot was full too. There were a handful of cars hovering in the lot waiting for spots to open.
THE TRAIL
The trail is overall in pretty good shape, but it was quite muddy, especially in the first half. I'd expect to get your shoes muddy, and possibly your socks wet if you wear trail runners like me.
I was glad to have my poles on the way down, just because I was slip-sliding a little on the mud and on the slick rocky steep parts.
I suspect the muddiness will get a bit worse with the rainy forecast these next few days.
TIMELINE
I got to the overflow lot a little after 9, and started hiking from the trailhead at 9:20. I reached the summit at 10:10, then sat around for a little bit. Started heading down at 10:20, and got back to the trailhead at 11:10.
MISC.
I walked into a cloud on my way up, and was totally socked in at the top. The fog burned off and it got sunnier as I descended.
I knew I'd see plenty of folks given how many cars were in the parking lot (and that it's Little Si, of course), but I was surprised to actually get a lot of solo time on my hike. I did have to share the summit and let a few dozen hikers pass on my way down, but overall, I really enjoyed getting some quiet solitude today.
