Fabulous walk with minimal elevation gain that follows a long valley bottom through patches of mature firs punctuated with views of surrounding peaks blitzed with early season snow. This is a great hike to take when you have several people in your party. Wide trails afford for lots of great side-by-side walking and conversations. Volunteers have done a terrific job of providing interpretive signs explaining the history of the Monte Cristo town. We had no problem today crossing the river on the big log, and we were able to make our way across the reminder of the river easily due to the low water level. This would also be a terrific backpacking destination for “first timers”.

Criada on Monte Cristo Ghost Town
We did take a first-timer friend backpacking here. It was a great trip, but the downside is that you have to pack in all your water. 😟

Nilloc29 on Monte Cristo Ghost Town
This is attached to the wrong Monte Cristo trail. I have reported it so that WTA can fix it.
