I hiked Bullion Basin up to the PCT via the steep northern trail, south on the PCT for 3.5 miles and back, then down the southern Bullion Basin PCT connector. There is no snow on the steep northern Bullion Basin connector, a couple of easy flat snow patches on the southern connecter (and a large blowdown that I circled around on the downhill side), and 1 easy-to-go-above patch of snow on the PCT between the two connectors. There is no snow on the "lower" Bullion Basin trail up to the basin. There were a few patches of snow on the north-facing sections of the PCT I traveled on, none of these were challenging, most people, including my not so brave self, will have no need for traction (I had poles). The "most" angled slope can be seen in picture 4. Centerframe in picture 3 is Sourdough Gap, there is certainly some snow, but it is usually hike-able with this level of snow.
Trip Report
Bullion Basin, Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) - Chinook Pass to Snoqualmie Pass — Wednesday, Jul. 13, 2022
Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
The north facing sections have avalanche and glacier lilies, snow buttercups, lance-leaf springbeauties, western anemones, and many more. The south facing slopes have lots of varied pastel colored phlox (picture 2), some of the crimson columbine, scarlet paintbrush, and magenta paintbrush are blooming (more to come), grounsel, western wallflower, and many more (incuding the beautiful rockcress in picture 1). The first of the electric-pink rock penstemon is blooming in the 1/2 mile south of Bear Gap.
Every time I hike this trail I am amazed that there are so few people (over 8 hours I saw 7 people). You drive on a paved road up to 4800', free parking with a modern bathroom, no break-ins. After a fairly easy 1600' climb you are on a ridge hike with ever-varying and spectacular views, environments, and flowers. I had a very enjoyable talk with 2 women from Phinney Ridge who jokingly (I think) wanted me to keep this hike a secret.

Very nice photos as always. This was one of Bob's and my favorite loops in our younger days so it was good to live it again vicariously! Thank you!
