Trip Report
Mount St. Helens - Worm Flows Route — Sunday, May. 7, 2017
South Cascades > Mount St. Helens
Two days of sun followed by by a cold night meant there was a solid 2" layer of ice on top of softer snow. We camped Sat night at treeline then climbed starting @ 5AM with crampons the whole way up. Started descending @ ~10:30-11 AM and walked down with crampons from the first ridge due to icy conditions. After that, the slopes were glissadable and the snow rapidly got slushy further down.
Other than a single patch of dirt ~50 ft from the parking lot, there was snow the entire way up. That won't last long with warm temps.

It's actually an inflatable costume with a fan to blow it up, so it packs pretty well.

Sounds like you had a great trip! Out of curiosity, what gear Would you recommend bringing? Are crampons and ice axes necessary? How about gaitors and snow shoes? Thanks!
