Trip Report
Snow Bowl Hut Snowshoe — Friday, Feb. 8, 2013
Mount Rainier Area > SW - Longmire/Paradise
We got to the trail as groomers finished their work - an all volunteer crew. The road in was mainly bare of snow and ice to the snow park. Snow Park & Discover Passes are required.
You'll carry skis about a hundred yards to consistent snow. Melt/freeze crusts have been going on. Snow is thin to 3000 and tends to be hard and icy spots to 3500. Not much crust above 3500. Fresh snow would be great. The trail is a long climb, steep in places. It's definitely an aerobic work out. It's a challenging descent. The road is narrow if the snow is hard bumpy control can be tough. But it is beautiful and MTTA has done a great job on the trails and huts. If you're up to it it's classic.
