A cloudy and appropriately hike to Gothic Basin. I got started at the trailhead shortly after 7:30 and was the first one up to the lake, although I did pass a backpacker coming down who had spent the previous night at the lake. The trail was damp in a few places; but the small amount of mud in places was easy to avoid. I found the elevation gain on the hike to be a bit sneaky with the first section of the hike to be relatively flat. Once you start climbing then there are quite a few steep sections that will get your heart rate moving. I didn't see much in the way of wildlife, a few chipmunks and a pika. I did enjoy about 20 minutes of the camping area lake by myself enjoying a peanut butter sandwich. The foggy lake and mountains were quite peaceful.
Gaia had it at 9.53 miles and 2717 of ascent (but it felt like more :)
