Trip Report

Spring Lake/Lake Desire Park - Echo Mountain — Wednesday, May. 6, 2026

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
Checker lilies (chocolate lilies), Fawn lily

Ten of us hiked up Echo Mountain on a cool, cloudy Wednesday. The forecast gradually shifted from sunny, to mostly sunny, and finally to overcast, but the weather made for comfortable hiking conditions. Starting from the Spring Lake Trailhead, we stopped at the Lake Desire viewpoint before continuing on to the summit.

Wildflowers were out in force near the top. We spotted checker lilies (chocolate lilies), fawn lilies, sea blushes, serviceberries, and starflowers, while along the trail we also found bleeding hearts, yellow pond lilies, honeysuckles, trilliums and oyster mushrooms. Best of all, we had the trails entirely to ourselves — a bonus that made an already enjoyable outing even more special.
