Harstine Island State Park — Sunday, May. 3, 2026

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
trail map: Harstine Island State Park

Our group of 5 people and a dog opted to take a midday forest hike with a short side trip to enjoy the beach for a few minutes. The forest was invitingly cool. Fat, lush moss carpeted the trails which to me suggests that not so many people have trodden those paths.

We strung together a 3-mile hike with various bits of trail using the maps they have posted for our use. Bathrooms were available and well-stocked with TP and hand sanitizer.

On another day, we could also choose a more intentional beach walk. This could be especially fun if coupled with some buckets and garden trowels to harvest Manila clams from the beach. (We saw people doing this here today.)  NOTE:
A recreational license is required for fishing and shellfish harvesting at Washington State Parks.

If you are looking for more, there is also Jarrell Cove State Park also on Harstine Island.
