Southwest Washington > Columbia River Gorge - WA

This is a fantastic wildflower hike right now, great volume (photos and video) and variety. The balsamroot in the lower meadows is thick and fresh. It is still thickening in the upper meadows, but there are thick areas. We saw 80-some species of plants in bloom, full list to come. The meadows have thick areas of spreading phlox, chickweed, larkspur, buttercups, and more. There were lots of treats in the forest: spotted and striped coralroot, ghost plant, a few Dutchman's breeches, Columbia windflower, chocolate lilies, and more. There will be excellent flowers for the next couple of weeks. There is lots of lupine in the meadows that is just starting to bloom. The upper meadows have a lot of kittens tails that will be blooming in a week. We really enjoyed going past/north of the peak to take in all of the open meadows. And it was great to turn around when the trail entered the forest and enjoy the meadow flowers again! Thanks Ash for your trail maintenance and cyber security volunteering with WTA and for your tip to explore the trail to the east of the old lookout, it was a pleasure talking with you! The link is a youTube slideshow with too many photos.
