We took the Kamikaze route up and then the longer, newer trail down. The falls were astounding with the sun glittering through the top levels of the cascade. The Kamikaze way up from just before the falls is actually pretty manageable -- just check your footing and use your hands on a few spots that require pulling up using a sturdy root or rock, and keep putting one foot in front of the other. Overall this part of the route is in good shape, covered in pine needles and well-trod dirt. Snow-free all the way up to the summit, where the views were outstanding and 360° on this clear day.
The longer way down was honestly more difficult than the workout on the way up. It just keeps going and going, and there's intermittent but packed down snow persisting around the 3900' level. Maybe it melts out completely in a week or so, but until then bring poles. After a while you kind of just zone out and cruise control down to the parking lot.
