Oyster Dome — Sunday, Apr. 26, 2026

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area
Oyster Dome by hikethe100

Arrived at shoulder-of-the-road parking about a quarter mile past the trailhead on Chuckanut Drive. The shoulder can be narrow and sloping down the hill so choose a stable spot to park. No privy. Use caution on the road walk and take note of the 35mph speed limit on the road.

Started hiking at 10:20am and reached the first bench with a scenic overlook in under an hour. This section of trail sports beautiful old growth. There are steep sections as well as level sections to catch your breath. Really enjoyed this section.

After reaching the feeder trail from the upper parking lot the trail was much more crowded with families and dogs looking to bask in the sun atop Oyster Dome.

The trail continues climbing among massive boulders and rocky features to keep things interesting and eventually dumps you out onto the bare rocky outcropping where approx 40 people were enjoying the gorgeous views. The hike down was steep but still pleasant and I arrived back at the trailhead at 2:10pm.
