The original plan was to explore the Crescent Lake Wildlife area, but the road to the south entrance was closed due to flooding, and at the north entrance there was flooding across the trail just a few hundred feet from the parking lot. So, we headed to our back-up plan: Lord Hill Regional Park.
I’d been here last winter on an icy day, and found it gorgeous. Melted, it was less so, but still a good place for the kid to burn some energy. Starting at the north lot, there were many minor uphills and downhills before we made it to Beaver Lodge Pond and then the River Viewpoint. We took a peek at the beginning of a small riverside trail, but it had clearly been underwater until very recently, and was still nearly level with the swollen river, so we headed back uphill.
Be ready to share the trail: we saw 30+ bicyclists and 2 horses, plus lots of walkers, including many kids and dogs. There are many intersections, with wide general use trails and narrow trails for walkers or for bikers. It’s helpful to have a map/GPS.
We saw tons of salmonberry flowers. There was enough mud for her to joyfully test out her new boots, but not enough for it to be a real impediment.
Road: paved
Lot: almost completely full, 37 cars at 10:40 AM and 39 cars at 3:45 PM.
Bathrooms: two port-a-potties, relatively clean and stocked with TP before and after.
