Excelsior Peak via Damfino Lakes Trail — Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
from Excelsior Peak @proxie

The WTA standard report has it all. Pretty easy hike overall and since done on a Wednesday, no real crowds, just a couple of other stragglers. Forest road is indeed long, but doable in a sedan with minimal fuss.

Did this on an injured knee originating from Lewis/Wing Lake + Black Peak two days ago, but wanted to get in something short while had another chance for decent weather. Weather forecast called for “AM clouds, PM sun”, and lucked into the clouds parting right when I got to the pass. Great fall color backed by some moody clouds. Unfortunately, didn’t get a chance to explore more aside from just going up to Excelsior Peak, as the WTA report and others suggest doing some mini loops here along with the High Divide. Blueberry bushes are around in decent amounts and can be sniped straight from the trail.

Note times below are super slow due to injury. Normally would trail run this kinda terrain.

1125 AM : start Damfino Lakes TH

125 PM : top Excelsior Peak

335 PM : end TH
