Northern Loop — Thursday, Jul. 24, 2025

Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River
Rainer making a statement

Four day clockwise hike of the Northern Loop. Camped at Granite Creek, Dick Creek, and James Camp. Minimal bugs first two nights. Few annoying mosquitos on 3rd night but didn't have to get bug nets or bug spray out. Lots of mosquitoes on the trail near Berkeley Park while hiking back to Sunrise.

The crossing of West Fork White River was ok. The bushwhacking on east side of river is a bit more complicated to follow. But following signs of foot traffic and path to the log bridge is easy to fine. A few trees in that section of trail required tromping around the blow downs.

Trip highlights: Wildflowers were fantastic. Lots of berries but most on the tart side but ate a few sweet ones. Midday swim in Mystic Lake was brisk and refreshing. Happy for the shade hiking up and away off the Carbon River valley. Saw bear off in the distance near Windy Gap. Overall a very rewarding loop to hike.
