The melt feels ahead of normal this year at least in this area? Making it up to Gobblers Knob this early in June with snow to cross, yes, but nothing sketchy or steep, feels unusual to me. All these recent warm days are having their effect, I guess.
Trail is snow free to Lake George. Past the lake are a few fairly large and deep snow sections that could be navigationally challenging if you don't know the route. I was fine with trail runners and poles today, but spikes would be useful if it was colder. One bridge over a stream crossing was bare but the step down from the several feet deep snow either side onto the bridge looked un-fun enough that I crossed via a snow bridge a short distance to the side instead. Beware of such things as the one I used seems likely to collapse soon!
Higher up, snow became more patchy. There were periodic sections over the trail but it was mostly bare, and no snow in places where I felt scarily exposed. Yay.
There were a few blowdowns over the trail but nothing hard to get past.
Glacier lilies and violets are in bloom through the forest section. Phlox and one paintbrush already out at the summit. Lots of vanilla leaf lower down along the Westside Road.
