Lake Serene — Monday, Jan. 20, 2025

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
Lake Serene by the writ

Arrived at the trail at 0930 this MLK Day to a half full lot. The trail has patchy ice and frozen rocks mainly in the first and last half miles on the way up to Serene. I didn't use spikes or poles, but had to take those sections low and slow. If it looks slick, it probably is!

As mentioned in recent reports, there is a downed, splintered cedar a little after the lower falls viewpoint. The way over it is obvious, but very slippery. Recommended to use gloves to get a good grip and don't be afraid to get a little dirty to stick close to the tree.

The lake is currently frozen and I was able to follow others' footsteps maybe 25-30 feet out onto the lake to check "walking on Lake Serene" off my list.

Got to see a pika that was courteous enough to let me take its picture before darting back into the rocks!
