We arrived around 9:00am and was the fourth car at the gate. There is plenty of parking given that it is alongside the road. I never write reports but talked to the ladies in the car parked in front of us and said it is something I always mean to do but never do. So here I am keeping my promise to them and myself of trying to do better and write reports.
The road was clear of snow and ice until about around half a mile in and there started to be patches of snow and ice and it increased as we got closer to the trailhead and then increased as you head up to the cave area. Spikes are not needed but very helpful. Not enough snow for snowshoes.
There is much less snow than there normally is for this time of year. There are a few trees down on the road and trail but can easily be walked around or stepped over.
On the hike in we had passed a total of five people so was nice and quiet and then passed a lot of people on our way out. Majority of the people seemed to have dogs and only one person used a leash. Not a complaint but sharing in case you are debating on taking your dog.
Bathrooms at second parking lot by the ice cave trailhead are open and stocked with TP.
Overall was a beautiful day and easy hike to start the year with.
