Trip Report

Shannon Ridge — Friday, Oct. 1, 2021

North Cascades

I like big views and I cannot lie

You other hikers can’t deny

When I made it to the ridge at a decent pace

And that tall mountain in my face

My heart sung

My grin’s humongous

Bigger than a bear-toothed fungus

The beauty is ensnaring

I’m hooked and I can’t stop staring

Oh, Baker, I wanna sit with ya

And take your picture.

Pick a blueberry,

And that bear scat makes me wary.

The mountain goats on a distant peak,

A great way to end the week.

Mushrooms left and right -

A mycologist’s delight!

Red Amanita not out-done by the setting sun, hon!

The fall light is fading fast

And I ain’t used to that.

Back down to the car we scramble,

Thus ends my ramble

(Some hunters on the trail and reports of a bear sighting just within the NCNP boundary)
