A great Earth Day weather wise for hiking on Whidbey Island. The Wibert trail was dry and the ground was soft to walk on with all the fallen needles. A big thank you to the Whidbey Athletic Club volunteers who help build and maintain a boardwalk through the swampy areas. These swampy areas had lots of huge, blooming skunk cabbages which were as beautiful as any wildflower meadow. The Ancient Cedar on this trail is the Northwest equivalent to the giant sequoias in our national parks and worth viewing. There were also many more large cedars, western hemlocks, and Douglas fur trees that made this short hike very enjoyable.

The beach trail was still closed due to a washout, so we made due on the Ridge trail to Wilbert and Ancient Cedar and then back down to the Hobbit trail. Ridge trail specifically was extremely muddy. Like, suck the boots off your feet muddy. I'd hate to do it in trainers, and was almost wishing for my gaiters.
Very quiet day for a Saturday; we only passed a few folks on the upper trails. Bathrooms were open and stocked, which was a treat. This would be a fun park to stay at in the summer with all the campgrounds! We found a few little private picnic spots with BBQ pits as well.

The Beach Trail was still closed off (as mentioned in previous trip reports), so instead we followed the short Hobbit Trail, which leads to a decent viewpoint. No obstacles on that trail, and saw only two other parties.

Oh boy what a day. Felt good to break free from the news and get some fresh air.
Started by catching the ferry at the new terminal in Mukilteo. I had no idea this was in the works. Great design that should improve the flow of traffic.
I didn’t do enough research but wanted to find a new beach trail. We wandered through the old campground and some of the trails on the hillside. The map in the lot shows the beach trail is damaged and doesn’t actually go to the beach. If there’s access to the beach we didn’t find it.
We backtracked a bit and drove to Bush Point where there’s a nice beach. Lots of singing birds today.
