Beware of: trail conditions

Arrived about 10:45 and only one car in the parking lot! It’s been years since we’ve seen that. Trail was great — not even muddy — except for two trees down across it. They were navigable though. Not nearly as much water flowing as this time last year with our dry winter and spring.

Beware of: trail conditions

On my way back from the coast, I decided to throw in another short hike and this one fit the bill. Started hiking about 1pm. Parking area was about half full. There was a bit of packed snow on the trail in some places and a couple trees down one which could be stepped over easily and one that required a little more effort. There is still a decent amount of snow at the falls. This is a nice short hike and it leads to a lot of other hikes I'd like to explore in the future.

I've never done this short hike before, but I figured on my way out to the coast I'd drop in and check it out and I was not disappointed. There was one car in the parking lot when I arrived and I had the falls to myself for the entire time, passing only a few more people on my way back to the my truck. The trail is in great shape. I saw a few deer, some amazing sunbeams through the trees and the falls were looking great. The road in was in great shape, but be aware that it is mostly shaded so as temperatures continue to stay around or below freezing it can be slick in a few areas. #hikingthestate.

I arrived at the parking lot at 10 am, about 3 hours after sunrise. There weren't many cars there and the parking lot is quite huge. The trail is very well maintained. While Sol Duc Falls might be the highlight, the view throughout the trail is equally beautiful. There are another waterfall just before Sol Duc Falls which I think is quite stunning as well.

It took me about 15 minutes to arrive at Sol Duc Falls. The bridge is very slippery. It was cold and much of the mist that gets on the bridge may have froze.

I hiked a little on Lover's Lane Loop. This trail is on your right at the fork after you pass the Sol Duc Falls Bridge. The left leads you up to the ridge. The Lover's Lane Trail will take you along the Sol Duc River.

I wrote more about this hike and my photographic journey on my blog. Link below.

Not super busy in the off season. It was a Sunday, but fairly cold for the area and we were blessed with a relatively empty trailhead. The falls are amazing, photos really don't do it justice.
