This short hike to the aptly named Birdsong Tree follows Roza Creek Road in the Wenas Wildlife Area. The trail is mostly exposed until you reach the Roza Creek bed, where the desert landscape becomes lush with cattails and birds greet you with their song.
In spring, you’ll be treated to many wildflowers and native plants such as balsamroot, phlox, bitterroot, lupine and Oregon grape. Aspen and willow trees can be found near the creek. While Birdsong Tree isn’t marked, look for a mounted wildlife camera.
As with any hike in this area, watch your step and be mindful of snakes in warmer months.
If you visit on a clear day, watch for views of Mount Adams on the drive out.
