Happy to have sunny weather on this beach hike. At least it started out that way! Ha! We had a surprise rainstorm that made us turn back before we got out to the point but it wasn’t cold and it helps to dress for the weather! Bring that rain shell/windbreaker!
Easy parking and even easier when you’re staying at one of the nice vaca places right on the beach there.
Birdwatching is supposed to be great here but we were kinda in the off season I think. I’d love to come back when the snowy plovers are nesting March- September. We did see a dead seal on the beach. He had some grey going on so I like to think he was old and had a nice long seal life. We almost tripped over him he blends so well with landscape.
The waves were wonderful and we were hoping to go again the next day but the weather turned awful windy so we stayed in our cozy cabin and took in the view instead.

Pretty busy for a Thursday afternoon (20 or so cars), but plenty of space to maintain social distancing. There is a big step down to get to the beach that might be a challenge for anyone with stability issues. The west side of the beach was surprisingly clear of any detritus. I don't recall seeing any shells! But the east side, closest to the mountain views is the opposite. If you have a dog, you are not able to walk to the end of the point. To protect bird habitat there are signs in the center of the sandy island (where the all the logs and grass are) that instruct that no dogs can go beyond that point. Very windy weather on the western side of the beach, a little less so if walking on the eastern side.

The king tides are leaving their mark.  It looks like the entire spit was overrun by waves in the past week.  Things look a little battered, but I'm sure that's nothing new.

Seeing the flocks of shore birds flying together and shifting as a unit is amazing.  The way they interact with light - sometimes glowing and sometimes disappearing is fantastic.  At one point they were flying around us as we stood still.  Hearing the little chirps and bird noises in the midst of the aerial acrobats is astonishing.

Waving watching was great.  As the tide was falling, the changing waves looked better for the surfer who was out.

The RV campground that you pass through to get started appears to be losing sites to the ocean.

Wonderful walk on the beach.
Loads of birds and waves crashing on the shore. We saw a family fishing from the beach. Not only fishing, but catching fish! Where is my pole when I need it most?!

Great option if you’re in the Ocean Shores area and want a beach without cars. Also, fun to see the Olympics from the west side.
