The parking lot was mostly full at 5:00 PM on Saturday when we arrived (don’t forget your Makah Recreation Pass - there is a check point on the road before the trailhead). It looks like they are expanding the parking lot down the road in a few areas to accommodate more cars.
The first section of the trail is very wide and has benches along the way before hitting the boardwalks. The boardwalks are in decent shape, but be careful. There are some loose pieces every once in a while and a few of the hand rails have broken off. The trail was pretty busy and it was a little tricky letting people pass on the narrow boardwalks but everyone was respectful. The view points are so incredible! This is the perfect hike for any age. My two-year old hiked almost the entire trail and loved navigating the boardwalks.
From start to finish, it took us 1 hour & 11 minutes, including a snack break and stopping at every view point.

Beautiful, sunny day for a quick hike! We stopped at the Makah Cultural & Research Center in Neah Bay to get our recreation permit and visit the museum (wonderful, well worth an hour or two), and with the permit hanging from the rearview mirror were waved right through the checkpoint entering the reservation. There were maybe a dozen cars parked when we arrived around 1:30pm, with plenty of space for at least that many more. The parking lot was in direct sun but 90% of the trail was shaded, the boardwalks and viewpoint structures were in good shape, and the trail was dry. I wasn’t expecting it to be downhill on the way in and uphill on the way out - not super steep but enough to get your heart rate up a little. All in all a lovely walk through the woods with absolutely beautiful views.

We got to the Trailhead around 5pm. There was plenty of parking available. The trail was easily passable with only a few muddy spots. My 3 year old did great jumping over roots and walking along the boardwalk.
The viewpoints are so beautiful and absolutely worth the trek to get there!

I got to the trailhead around 10am and there was only one other car there. The trail was dry and easy to navigate. The weather report called for rain but the clouds opened up and it was a beautiful morning to be out there. The wooden planks on the boardwalk can be slippery, so just be careful out there. Enjoy!

Gusty and rainy which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing as it made the view appear more rugged and dramatic. I also got to dodge the crowds as I only saw 2 other groups the whole time.
The permit is only for sale at the gas station as far as I was told, so stop there first.
