Cold rainy day! Plenty of mud and some trees down on the trail but nothing too major. The tower was in the clouds and just the tiniest bit of snow at the top. We forgot what a climb that last mile up is! A good workout!

Hiked on a very wet and foggy day so there were a ton of mushrooms all over the trail, but no vista views. Still a great forest hike.

It’s our last full day in the islands and we made the most of it with a 9 mile hike. We started at the top of Mount Constitution, taking the steep trail from the parking lot towards Twin Lakes. It’s quite steep and rocky for the first half mile or so. I was glad to have boots and a hiking pole. Before we got to Twin Lakes we startled a pair of vultures that were eating a dead deer just off the trail. They headed up to the treetops until we passed. We worked our way to Mountain Lake and had lunch in the sun, then continued on toward Cascade Creek and Cascade Falls. There were a number of places for our dog to get water along the way. When we finally made it to Cascade Lake, we headed left and looped the lake, ending with an ice cream cone at the beach. 10/10.

I actually started at the Cascade Falls area. There are several short trails that take you to four waterfalls: Rustic Falls, Cascade Falls, Cavern Falls, and Hidden Falls. If you don’t have a lot of time, or can’t hike a long distance, this would be good. There is a sign off the road for Cascade Falls.

I continued via Mt. Pickett and Twin Lakes all the way to the summit of Mt. Constitution. Not a lot of views, if any, along this stretch, but it is a quiet hike through a forest.

At Twin Lakes there is a good view of the tower above the lakes.

No restrooms along this 14 mile hike.
