Heather Lake — Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Our first family photo in the woods!
We chose Heather Lake as the first real hike to take our 4 week old baby boy on! It proved to be the perfect destination! Just difficult enough that it proved a bit of a challenge but not too hard for a Momma just 4 weeks post baby! This was the most difficult hike I've done in almost 3 months and it was a great trail for getting back into the swing of things! The trail is fairly rocky and has many large steps that tire you out on the way up and work your knees hard on the way back down. The steady incline poses just enough of a challenge to make the trek interesting. We arrived at 9:30 a.m. and managed to snag a spot in the parking lot but it was overflowing by the time we left at 2:00 p.m. The lake was busy but by taking the path that circumnavigates the lake we were able to find a quiet spot that we had all to ourselves! There were many spots to stop and water our Golden Retriever along the way. For a full trip report and more photos check out our blog!
Latigo was very excited to be out on the trail again!
Baby Jack loves being outside! Thankfully!
Our newest hiking essential, an umbrella for sun protection for our little hiker!
