South Cascades > Mount Adams Area

First family backpacking trip with our 6 year old. This was a great trail choice. We hit the trail late (1730) but being July in Washington still had plenty of daylight. Hit snow as predicted at about 5000', some covering the trail, but not prohibitive. Hit Adams Creek Meadows at about 1915 and found a fabulous campsite to the left which was home for two nights. Day 2 involved lots of play around Adams Creek and day scramble over a lot of snow up to the PCT junction. GPS made trail finding no problem but I wouldn't want to do it without on account of the amount of snow. Mosquitos were plentiful, not unbearable but we did come home with a LOT of bites despite repellent. There were also a lot of small bees which seemed harmless and some yellow jackets and flies as well. The incredible moonrise over the left shoulder of Adams made up for the bugs a little, not to mention the joy of introducing my six year old and my husband to my 22-year passion for backpacking. :) Two days of warmth and sun changed things quickly. Most of the snow around Adams Creek Meadows was gone by the time we left on Day 3. Snow level was at 5270' on the way back down.
