Trip Report

Church Creek — Thursday, Jul. 17, 2008

Olympic Peninsula > Olympia
This is such a pretty trail, the forest is old growth and consists of mostly hemlock and cedar. I wish more people would hike this trail because is it getting overgrown. This trail used to go from the Skokomish to the Wynoochie but most of it was destroyed by logging. After all the logging this trail was forgotten about until 2005 when the mountaineers opened it up again. Well the trail needs more help. There are a lot of blow downs on the Skokomish side and the trial is getting overgrown and hard to follow on the Satsop side. The trial now ends at the beautiful Satsop lakes. This hike is 6.5 miles round trip with about 2,800 feet of elevation gain as the trail climbs up the divide and then descends. There are two access points for the trail, one at Satsop Lakes and the other on the Skokomish side. I think both ends are shut off by a wild life gate from October to May.
