Trip Report
Mount Aix, Dog Creek — Friday, Jun. 23, 2006
Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
I hiked up the Mt. Aix trail and then into Dog Basin. I hadn't been to the basin in about 10 years. There was about 10 downed trees over the trail but nothing you couldn't get around. There was snow covering the trail at the highest point in Dog Basin, otherwise snow free.
This hike doesn't have real stupendous views but if solitude is what you are looking for then this trail is the ticket. It is also about the right length for a leg stretching day hike, about 10 miles. It is used primarily by horse people and not many of those, mostly around hunting season.
I saw one horseman and two ladies with llamas.
Enjoy
