Trip Report

Scott Paul Trail — Friday, Dec. 6, 2002

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
With my two friends Carrie and Phyllis, we headed up Highway 20 and the Baker Lake Road for the trail head at Schriebers Meadow. Only two cars in the parking lot when we arrived, so looked like an uncrowded day in the mountains. Hiking up the Scott Paul trail we started to encounter snow at about 4,000'. When we got to the ridge at 4,700' there was about 2 feet on snow on the ground. It was consolidated so we could walk around any where with out postholing. We left the trail from where it turns west and went up the slopes and ridges. The higher we got, the better the views. We found a got spot for lunch on a rocky ridge at about 6,000' to the south of Squak Glacier. We could see from Mt. Shuksan. to Glacier Peak, the Monte Cristo peaks, Pugh, Sloan, Whitehorse, 3-Fingers, Rainier way down south, over to the Olympics, and to the Twin Sisters, plus all the other peaks in between. We never saw any other people up where we were the whole day. Another great time in the North Cascades.
