Trip Report

Koppen Mountain, Way Creek — Wednesday, Sep. 13, 2000

Snoqualmie Region > Salmon La Sac/Teanaway
Beginning at the trailhead of the 9701 road end, I started up the Way Creek trail toward Koppen Mountain. Though the trail is ocassionally rutted from motorcycle traffic, it is a quite pleasant trail. The huckleberry is turning red, the mountain ash orange, and the pine grass yellow. There are some nice old growth stands of ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, and the ocassional western white pine. At the junction with the Koppen Mountain trail I continued north. After about 1.25 miles I veered west on a userbuilt trail to the top of Malcolm Mountain. The views from Malcolm are really nice, from an unusual vantage of the Teanaway country. I recommend it, but be prepared to find lots of indistinct spur and ribbon trails on the ridgecrest. It seems to be more heavily used by wildlife than people.
