Trip Report
Hindoo, Rattlesnake Trail — Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999
Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
This is the trail of many crossings. The first 2 miles of the Rattlesnake trail, we had to cross the river 5 times. There was very little use except by fishermen. On Friday night we were the only ones along the creek since we didn't see any other cars at the trail head. Saturday we saw horses and one backpacker. Excellent camps at ~1.25 miles and 2 miles, which also double as horse camps. We then went up Hindo Creek trail and had to cross the river 6 times in about 200 yards. Then the trail goes straight up and we followed for about 1700 feet and 2 miles. It wasn't maintained at all and we felt that we were the first people up there this year. We kept getting higher expecting fabulous views but never saw much. There is no water on this trail once you leave the creek.
