Trip Report

Pyramid Mountain / Pyramid Peak — Saturday, May. 22, 1999

Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast
With the return of Spring Weather, we decided to hike up Pyramid Mountain, figuring that it was a safe bet to not have much snowfall. It was a perfect day -- cloudless, warm, just enough of a breeze to cool you off, and as hoped, no snow. The trail has washed out a bit in the two open slide areas since the last time we'd been there, but wasn't impassable. Just narrow and slippery enough (from loose pebbles and dirt) to make us slow down and really take our time. You'll want to wear shoes or boots with a good tread. There were a few trees down across the path, but most were easily passable -- a couple of the biggest ones had had a foothold notched into them which helped a lot. Towards the top of the mountain, the bugs were out in full force (flies and the like; nothing that bit), which was a bit annoying, but didn't spoil the view. We only passed 3 other hikers the whole day and had a lovely time soaking our feet on the public dock on Lake Crescent afterwards. A great way to welcome in the prime hiking season.
