Silver Star Mountain — Sunday, Mar. 22, 1998

Southwest Washington > Lewis River Region
Road up to Grouse Vista saddle snow-free. No snow until just breaking out into the open, about .5 mile; averages a foot until cutting over to the summit ridge .25 mile from summit. Then plunge into about 3 to 4 feet of snow. Views great, slight breeze during a day we caught a sunny window in the weather. Slow going return on road, so we two decided to drop down to Tarbell Trail as a shortcut .7 mile from TH. After 300' and no sign of Tarbell (total snowcover and no blazes), sludged back up to road and on out. No one else seen.
