Today we did a morning island excursion to hike Guemes Mountain. We walked onto the Guemes Island ferry at 0830. The weather was cool and crisp with clouds and areas of sun poking through, it was beautiful! The ferry ride is a quick 5 minutes and then we were off. Walked the 2 miles on S. Shore Rd to the trailhead. The road walk is quiet and lovely mostly along the channel. You can see or hear the water and nearby shipyards the whole way. Once at the trailhead we entered the forest and headed up. It’s 1.2 miles to the top on very well made trail through forest. The views at the top of the other islands and surrounding areas are so pretty! On a day like today with clouds and sun the contrast and moving weather was fun to watch! After a quick snack and drink we went back to the ferry terminal and caught the 1100 back to Anacortes. We had a great lunch at Gere-a-deli in Anacortes. We did a total of just over 6 miles in about 2 hours. Definitely a good morning outside.
