Enjoyed a morning in Seattle with some family from Portland. First we hit Ben and Esther's - Seattle for a yummy vegan breakfast, then the Puget Sound Mycological Society's 2023 Mushroom Show. If you didn't go this year, this is your sign to visit in 2024. It's really great.

Before heading home, we visited Ballard Locks to show-off some of the neat features to my brother and sister-in-law. At the locks we saw a variety of birds, including a couple of cormorants. Unfortunately, no fish.

The park itself is clean and seasonally crisp. We enjoyed the large pumpkin and scarecrow photo area.

On the way out we stopped by the front of the Nordic Museum to visit Frankie Feetsplinters, a NW troll created by Thomas Dambo. In Frankie's words:

Frankie don't like slimy fish, cause fishes are all so dumb
And Frankie don't like little humans, humans are so dumb
Frankie don't even like trolls, cause trolls are also dumb
But Frankie's mouth's the only one that says the word of dumb

Overall, not much of the backcountry experience I'm typically after, but a blast to enjoy an urban hike with the fam! #HalloweenHikes

Just check out that sparassis! The PSMS mushroom fair is a great place to learn about mushrooms and how we live in harmony. Photo by Tynesha Campbell
