Great first time on this close to Seattle moderate hike! No wonder it's so popular. Lots of parking the large dirt/gravel lot at 10 am on a Tuesday. The trail was in great condition - lots of rocks and roots so be careful of footing. There were almost as many dogs on this hike as humans, all leashed. That first view of the lake - Spectacular!!! and just a sweet hint of what's to come. Once down at the lake basin, I definitely encourage continuing past the shore access trail at the little inlet stream and following the trail along the lake for more views (though we didn't immediately see where the trail continued across the rocky stream)! We saw lots of pika and chipmunks, also one ptarmigan (I had to look it up!) in the underbrush running up-trail near the shore. This took us about 3 hrs 48 minutes (hiking with stopping, gazing, snacking, and being present in nature).
