I generally prefer lake destinations over peaks, but the short jaunt from Gem Lake to the peak of Wright Mountain was worth the moderate extra effort (if you are accustomed to “hard” rated hikes). It was more dirt trail than rocky scramble, but there was some definite scrambling near the top. My dachshund did it with only a few boosts needed.
This probably added 2 hours to the overall journey, partly due to the added fatigue, than if we had turned back at Gem. The high temp was 82, and I ran low with 3 liters of water. I would’ve finished 3.5-4 if I had brought it. If repeated, I’d probably carry 2 liters and filter 2 liters at gem lake. Might also bring a swim suit.
