Trails for everyone, forever

Home Go Hiking Trip Reports Dosewallips River Road, West Fork Dosewallips River, Anderson Glacier, Anderson Pass, Enchanted Valley via East Fork Quinault River, Graves Creek
Paintbrush hill with Anderson Moraine

Did this over 3 nights point to point backpacking trip, with the first being a late start (after 5pm) at Dosewallips TH and a short evening hike to the old Dosewallips campground (which has bear boxes), 2nd night near Anderson "Glacier", and 3rd was Pyrites Creek, and out Graves Creek TH day 4.

The trail was in great condition most of the way, but was a bit overgrown and narrow in some sections between Big Timber and Honeymoon Meadows, somewhere between these two camps I lost my Smith sunglasses (gray with purple lens). If found please email me mindykingmk@gmail.com.

It's a pretty long slog from Dosewallips to the glacier, especially because it wasvery warm. Luckily, much of the trail is in the trees and is in pretty good condition.  Very few down trees and only 1 "river crossing" to ford out of Honeymoon Meadows (there were two ways across on the map, we did shallow ford after going through the camp, not sure what the situation at the other one on the map was we didn't go look).

No snow on the trail the whole way, but some snow patches around Anderson Moraine.

Parts of the trail up to the moraine from the pass were pretty narrow through bushes and over roots, also some steep areas with loose gravel, but great views along the way. Mosquitos were terrible on this part of the trail and at the top/by the moraine... otherwise they were not a problem to a minor annoyance the rest of the trail.

The view of the moraine and jagged peaks is stunning, the lake is more than half melted. Beautiful bunches of Indian Paintbrush flowers are at the top.

The day from Anderson pass to Pyrites Creek was tougher than anticipated, the downhill really put a pounding to our feet that made it difficult to push through the last few miles. Thankfully, the views through the Enchanted Valley were awesome, lots of beautiful trees, flowers, ferns, and waterfalls.

Pyrites Creek to the trailhead was not too bad after our tired feet rested from the day before. It was another beautiful forest and river section that rolled with ups and downs. Several impressive huge old growth trees are along the path.

It was also in this section we found most of the edible berries: huckleberries, thimbleberries, raspberries, a few blackberries and salmon berries, and bunch berries.

I’m heading out to Mt. Anderson Moraine via Dosewallips in a week. Can you tell me about the ford out of Honeymoon Meadows please? Depth and width. I’ll be solo so can’t take too risky of a chance.

It's an easy ford, don't sweat it going solo. The water is shallow. The on the way across it took me probably 14 steps and never got higher than mid-to-low shin (less than 12in probably), but most steps were only ankle deep. I'd guess the width is around 25 to 35 feet across.

Thank you!

Thank you for the reply. The 18 miles, or so, to the moraine will be a challenge. But, it's all about pace. I'll keep an eye out for the glasses.
